Show of hands, who is holding both titles of mom and dad this father’s day? Any single married moms in here too? I’m rooting for you! Any mamma’s that get to celebrate the wonderful fathers of their babies? Rooting for you too! Today can be a joyous day or a headache.
My parents divorced when I was 7. From there, my mom was mostly single except for a few year stretch (can’t remember maybe 5?). Father’s day hasn’t ever really meant much to me. That’s a very long story for another time.
So for you moms that are struggling today, hold your head high. It’s going to be OK.
Thankfully I get to celebrate my children’s wonderful father who shows up for them daily. He is calm and patient with them. He plays and talks with them. He teaches them life lessons and skills they will need. He works his tail off for them.
He does everything I wanted from a father. I am so so happy and thankful my children get to have this type of father.
I’m not writing this to put anyone down or to make you feel bad if today isn’t a good day for you. Life is messy and I’m pretty sure if we all had a crystal ball that would tell us how our relationships with the men in our life would go, many women would have made different choices.
So let’s pick up our sisters that might be struggling. Let them know you see them.
For those whose men are setting the standard, or maybe even breaking those cycles that had been passed down to them, lift him up! I know most men don’t want a big fuss. A sincere thank you and showing acknowledgment and appreciation goes far.
If you don’t really have the financial means to do a big gift a favorite home cooked meal, dessert, and joining their favorite hobby is a good place to start.
I really hope you all had a good day with your loved ones! And because I know not everyone did and some have felt hurt today, I see you. We are here for you too.
Let me know, what did you do to celebrate today?
